Introduction
This course looks at food safety and food hygiene. Let’s have a look at what these terms mean:
Food Safety – This relates to the correct storage of food, such as location, temperature and packaging.
Food Hygiene – This relates to personal direct contact to food and measures needed to keep it contamination free. Examples being; wearing clean kitchen wear and washing your hands.
There are a number of negative consequences to poor food safety and food hygiene:
- Consumer harm caused by contaminated food and drink
- Both the company and individual can have legal action taken out against them. This could result in a fine or more seriously imprisonment
- The business may gain a negative reputation resulting in loss of customers
