Basic Food Hygiene

Chilling

It is imperative that food is chilled correctly to help stop harmful bacteria from growing. Certain foods need to be kept chilled to keep them safe, e.g. food with a ‘use by’ date, cooked dishes and other ready-to-eat produce such as prepared salads and desserts.

It is important not to leave these types of food standing at room temperature for periods of time. You should do the following things:

  • Always check chilled food deliveries to make sure it is cold enough.
  • Put any chilled food into the fridge immediately.
