Step 1 – Assessing The Risks

When assessing the risks involved with hazardous substances, the employer will establish the specific risks associated with the hazardous substance. This information should be provided by obtaining the Safety Data Sheet from the supplier.

Employers should:

• Identify all the hazardous substances in the workplace.
• Decide who is at risk and how they are at risk.
• Always evaluate the risk by deciding if any further controls are necessary_
• Always remember to record the findings of the risk assessment.
• Remember to review and revise when necessary.
