COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health and Safety)

Step 7 – Prepare Plans and Procedures To Deal With Accidents, Incidents And Emergencies

This will apply where the work activity gives rise to a risk of an accident, incident or emergency involving exposure to a hazardous substance, which goes well beyond the risks associated with normal day-to-day duties. In such circumstances, the employer must plan their response to an emergency and hazardous substances involving employee’s before it happens.

It is the legal duty of employers to prepare procedures and set up communication and warning systems to enable an appropriate response almost immediately after any incident occurs. Should any incident, accident or emergency occur involving employees, immediate action needs to be taken by the employer to minimize the harmful effects.
