Introduction To COSHH

To provide you with an introduction to the requirements of the COSHH regulations, the table includes what YOU must consider and also what is required of your employer.

Wearing your personal protective equipment is one of your required responsibilities under the regulations. Do you always wear the PPE that is provided? Do you know where it is kept at your workplace? If not think of the reasons why.

Resposibilites

Your Employer Must…

  • Assess the risks to your health from your use of hazardous substances and the precautions necessary to seep you safe.
  • Introduce measures to prevent you from being exposed to hazardous substances. Where this is not reasonably practicable, ensure that your exposure is adequately and suitably managed
  • Ensure that suitable controls are identified and implemented. Equipment provided should be appropriate for the task; maintained, checked and continually monitored.
  • Where necessary monitor your exposure to the hazardous substances and carry out required health surveillance and training.
  • Inform you about the risks and precautions necessary to protect your health.
  • Train you in the use of identified control measures and any protective equipment that is required.

You, as an employee must…

  • Co-operate with your employer and makeĀ  full use of any identified control measures.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report any defective equipment and help your employer to prevent further use of the equipment, until it has been repaired of replaced.
  • Where and when requested, attend any health surveillance and training.
