Team Lifting
One of the most cost-efficient ways of reducing the risk of injury is via team handling or dual lifting.
For a heavy load that requires more than one person, team handling can make the task much easier. It is important to work together as a team so that no injuries are caused and the task is completed safely.
Things to consider are:
- Try to work with someone who is a similar height and build to yourself.
- Keep communication clear throughout the task and make sure each individual knows exactly what they need to do before and during the lift. Avoid simply shouting ‘ok’, this could cause some confusion and lead to people lifting out of time.
- Be conscious of everyone’s capabilities and limitations.
- Elect one person to have control of the lift and instruct others.
- When lifting as a team it is vital that a good grip can be obtained by everyone.
- Lift all together and at the same time, keeping the load level.
- Move together smoothly in unison communicating as you go throughout the whole task.
